BikeRadar Reviews the Enigma Excel 6Al/4V Titanium Road Bike Prototype

We were delighted to see BikeRadar take a closer look at our 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Excel 6Al/4V project, offering an early insight into the direction of this very special titanium road bike.

The bike featured in the article is a prototype, developed as part of our exploration into what’s possible with Grade 5 (6Al/4V) titanium. As with all Enigma projects, this development phase allows us to test ideas, refine details and challenge assumptions before finalising the production specification.

A Prototype With Purpose

The Excel 6Al/4V prototype was never intended to represent the finished product. Instead, it serves as a platform to explore tube profiles, construction techniques and ride characteristics specific to higher-strength titanium alloys.

Before production begins, the final frames will see a number of refinements, informed by testing, feedback and our ongoing commitment to long-term ride quality and durability.

Independent Insight Into Our Design Thinking

BikeRadar’s feature offers a thoughtful, independent perspective on the Excel project — covering not just materials and construction, but also the broader philosophy behind creating a modern titanium road bike to mark our 20th anniversary.

For those interested in bicycle design, engineering and British titanium craftsmanship, it’s well worth a read.
