All of our models are available as a frame only, frameset or complete bike. It’s also possible to purchase a finishing kit package, ‘rolling chassis’ including wheels, or a part build if you already have some components you would like to use. Get in touch for details on options not listed.
Our Core range models are available with stock sizing and features. This means that it’s not possible to change geometry or tyre clearance, however you can still choose your finish and component spec to make it your own. For more information on the different types of finishes available please see our finishing page and our paintworks page. Build prices for our most popular builds are listed as a guide, but if you would like a configuration not listed then please get in touch.
If you purchase a complete bike, it will be supplied fully assembled although a small amount of assembly may be required if the bike is shipped via a courier service. We can build a bike using components supplied by customers, please get in touch to discuss options and prices.
The Etape is designed as an All-Road bike for use primarily on tarmac but can also handle light gravel tracks. This makes it ideal for the rough, potholed lanes typically found in the UK. If you plan to ride longer distances off road or on rougher surfaces, we recommend considering our Escape.
The maximum tyre size is 700c x 35mm without mudguards fitted. With mudguards we recommend a maximum 28mm tyre, though it is possible to fit a 32mm tyre.
We aim to have all ‘Core’ model frame sizes available ex stock. However, the Cycle Industry is currently experiencing major supply issues which has affected our ability to maintain stock levels of all frame sizes. If your frame size/model isn’t in stock the maximum wait should be around 3 months for frames/framesets. Please contact us for availability on Bike Builds.

Etape Mk3
The Etape has been part of the Enigma range longer than any other model and for good reason. As well as being hugely versatile it’s perfectly suited to mixed riding on the rough roads so typically found in the UK. From a fast road ride with friends, a week-long tour, audax or endurance race, the Etape will keep you comfortable and confident whatever the conditions.
Over the years the Etape has evolved from its roots as a rim-brake winter road bike and now thanks to disc brakes features generous tyre clearance of up to 35mm. Though intended primarily as a road bike, the Etape is fully capable of light gravel or off-road riding and is perfectly suited to touring and bike packing.
Like our other Core range models, the Etape features size specific tubing. We specify our custom 3Al/2.5V tube set with varying tube diameters and butt profiles to suit different size frames. This ensures riders across the size range get a consistent ride feel, with optimised stiffness, comfort and weight saving.
As the Etape is aimed at endurance riding, it features a higher stack height and more compliant frame than some of our other models, ensuring you remain comfortable over long distances. If you’re looking for more race focused geometry and don’t need the extra tyre clearance and mounts, we suggest you look at our Evoke model. If the Etape sounds good but more off-road capability is important to you, check out our Escape gravel bike.

"I’ve been riding this Enigma Etape through the winter to showcase the benefits of having a dedicated winter bike that is designed and set up to cope with all the demands that this time of year puts on bikes and cycling. This is my final review on the bike and I’ve listed six reasons this bike really shines and why I think you need a bike like this in your collection".

“I was asked by my friend who owns a bike shop to test ride a finished bike for a customer before he collected it, he had requested it be ridden before collection. It was an Enigma Etape. I was so impressed with it I told my friend that I would have on as soon as I could justify it. In late 2019 I managed to justify it! And became the proud owner of a new Etape, with 12 speed Record groupset and Hope hubs and brakes. I rode 84 hilly miles on it on my first trip out, and absolutely loved it. I have ridden a good few thousand miles on it since in complete comfort, riding from Lancashire over to North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Cumbria most weekends. I have a very expensive carbon fibre top of the range Italian bike from one of the bike world’s most prestigious manufacturers, which cost me a few thousand pounds more than the Etape, but if I had to sell one, I would keep the Etape”.
