Since its launch in 2017 Enigma’s Escape gravel bike has proven to be a highly versatile option for bike packing, touring, commuting and endurance racing. For 2020 the Escape undergoes a significant update to offer customers more tyre options, cargo capability and groupset compatibility on a frame with reduced weight and improved ride quality.
Until now, like many bikes, the Escape used the same tubing across the size range that worked well for a broad range of riders. Enigma now uses size specific tubing, with diameters ranging from 32 to 44mm, saving weight and improving compliance on smaller frames whilst optimising stiffness and
strength on larger options. This provides a more consistent ride quality across the 50-60cm size range from the seamless 3Al 2.5V titanium custom butted tubeset, and frame weight from as little as 1395g.
Tyre clearance has been maximised to 700c x 45mm or 650b x 50mm to increase the Escape’s off road capability. Neater cable routing ensures compatibility with wireless, Di2 or 1x drivetrains, with removable guides for a clean adaptability with future upgrades. The frame features mudguard and pannier mounts along with 3 x bottle cage positions.
The Escape also features a new fork from Enigma’s CSix carbon component range. The new design has tyre clearance to match the frame, and is available in two versions: ADV with a triple boss cargo cage mount, GRV without. Both forks feature internal brake hose and dynamo cable routing, with a light mount on the crown and mudguard eyelets. Fork weight is class leading at 435g for the GRV version with an uncut steerer.
In addition to the frame updates, the Escape is now available with the latest Shimano GRX groupsets. RX810 with a double chainset is the standard option, offering the most versatile gear range with lightweight and solid performance. RX600 and Di2 are also available in addition to SRAM and Campagnolo options.
We offer a large range of sizes, from 50-60cm (Effective top tube) with custom geometry also available with an 8 week lead time. There are also options for Rohloff, Pinion or Single Speed set ups. Please contact us for more details.
Commenting on the new model, Brand Manager Richard Lambert said: “The Escape draws on 14 years of titanium manufacturing experience and product evolution. As a rider coming from a MTB and touring background I’ve particularly enjoyed testing and developing the Escape on the bridleways of the South Downs, seeing the original version prove itself on tours and endurance races worldwide. The updated model refines a successful formula for an even more versatile ride, suitable for a huge range of tyres, groupsets and to fit any size of rider. We’re proud to offer the Escape MKII as part of our 2020 range.”
